Attract Short-Term Renters With a Beautiful Interior Design

This custom built Laneway Home was designed with short term rental functionality in mind.
The challenge was to create a well functioning ‘home away from home’ that could accommodate up to 7 guests comfortably in 870 square feet as well as store away the items needed to run the rental business.
The focus for the design was to create durable, easily cleaned surfaces and highly functional and interesting furnishings that would stand the test of time and appeal to a variety of guests. The design also needed to stand out in photographs which would be the main tool to attract renters for the space.
The main floor area is designed as an open concept with a kitchen with peninsula, dining and living area. We selected an under counter fridge, which visually keeps the kitchen area more open and works perfectly for the use of the house as a vacation rental. The flooring throughout the main floor is polished concrete with in floor heating which is hard wearing and easy to maintain. The kitchen cabinetry is a flat profile with high gloss finish which makes it easier to clean, The white quartz counter tops were also selected with easy maintenance in mind.
The furniture on the main floor is a combination of reclaimed pieces that were custom made to fit the space, such as the dining table, and vintage pieces sourced from local dealers, giving the space a vibrant and lived in feel. The pops of red colour on the chairs, side board and art work stand out in visual media. The reclaimed and vintage pieces juxtapose the modern kitchen and concrete floor and make the eclectic design interesting.
The upstairs accommodates two bedrooms and one bathroom, The bedrooms have been designed with built in cabinetry to fit the slanted roof line and a large window bench where guests can set down their luggage. The beds lift up to store additional linens and bedding needed for the guests. The California shutters on the windows were selected to provide additional privacy for the owners occupying the main house located on the lot.
The design of this laneway home works equally well for travelers as it does for the owners of the house
